Ballet at Equinox Dance & Film (RAD Training + Modern Performance Pathways) Ballet is the foundation of all great dance training - and at Equinox Dance & Film, our ballet program is designed to develop dancers who are technically strong, artistically expressive, and confidently prepared for both stage and screen. Led by Samantha Johnston, a qualified RAD Registered Teacher since 2001, our ballet classes are shaped by over 44 years of experience in the performing arts industry, including 12 years as an RAD student and more than 30 years teaching the RAD syllabus. This depth of experience brings a rare “bigger picture” approach to ballet education - where every exercise is taught with purpose, progression, and real-world application. At Equinox, we don’t simply “teach the syllabus.” We extract the training value from it. Miss Samantha’s teaching method focuses on building alignment, strength, musicality, artistry, discipline, and confidence, while ensuring students truly understand how ballet technique supports every dance style. What makes our ballet training unique is the way it is reinforced through meaningful performance opportunities. Our annual productions are intentionally choreographed to embed classical ballet steps and technique within the choreography, allowing dancers to strengthen their RAD foundations while performing. A powerful and proven “double training” approach that has delivered results for over two decades. As Hobart’s first studio integrating Dance for Film, our ballet students also receive a modern edge: learning to perform/train for camera, developing screen presence, and gaining the ability to self-correct through visual and video feedback. The lens becomes an incredible training tool - sharpening alignment, precision, artistry, and awareness in a way traditional training alone cannot.
